His talent earned him a spot in the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame in 1970.

Givenchy had a very special way of making clothes. In his early days, he worked with a small budget. He used simple white cotton fabrics to make lovely items. He made deep-sleeved blouses and high-waisted wool skirts. He also created a famous shift dress, which is a straight style. In 1958, he made the "baby doll" dress with unique shapes. He even made a "balloon coat" that looked very special. His designs were often easy to wear but still looked very elegant.

Hubert was born on February 20, 1927, in Beauvais, France. He came from a noble family with a long history. His family had been titled Marquis of Givenchy since 1713. Many people in his family worked with art. His great-grandfather was a set designer for the Beauvais factory. Hubert moved to Paris at age 17 to study art. He worked for other designers like Jacques Fath and Elsa Schiaparelli. By 1952, he was ready to open his own shop in Paris.

Many interesting facts define his long career. He was a very tall man at 6 feet 6 inches. In 1953, he met Audrey Hepburn while filming the movie Sabrina. He later made her famous black dress for Breakfast at Tiffany's. He also created her first perfume collections, like L'Interdit. In the late 1970s, he was a pioneer for Black models. He chose mostly Black women to show his clothes on the runway. He wanted to show that glamour was for everyone, not just a small group.

His work changed how people thought about fashion. He showed that simple materials could look very high-class. He also connected fashion to the world of movies and stars. Even after he retired in 1995, he stayed busy with art. He loved collecting old bronze and marble sculptures. He passed away in 2018 at the age of 91.
