Zhu Youcheng was very smart. He studied hard to learn about rules and ideas. When he became emperor, he worked very hard. He wanted a fair government. He lowered taxes to help the people. He also spent less money on the government. He picked good people for important jobs. He even let his helpers tell him if he made mistakes.

Life was good for many people during his rule. The economy grew strong. He even started making new coins for trade. He helped fix the Yellow River to stop floods. He mostly kept peace with other lands. He was one of the best leaders of the Ming dynasty.
