These stories use real events from history. They can be books, movies, or even video games. Authors look at how people lived in old times. They study the manners and social rules of that period. This helps readers see how real people might have acted.

Some stories use famous people from history. Other stories use made-up characters in a real world. Some writers even add magic or fantasy to their tales. This is called historical fantasy. People have shared these stories for a very long time. In China, many famous novels were set in the past.

One example is Sui Tang yanyi, which is about the Sui and Tang eras. In Europe, Sir Walter Scott helped make this style very popular. His books made people interested in Scottish history. Some stories even help save old buildings. Victor Hugo wrote a book that helped save Gothic buildings in France. This shows how stories can connect us to our history.
