Many people call him the "Father of Medicine." This is because he changed how people understood being sick. Before his time, many thought gods caused illnesses. Hippocrates believed that sickness came from natural things instead.

He thought the environment, food, and habits caused health problems. This idea helped medicine become its own special subject. It was no longer just part of religion or philosophy.

His way of working was very careful and steady.

He believed in clinical observation, which means watching a patient very closely. He looked at their skin and felt their pulse. He even wrote down how they moved or breathed. He wanted to see how a sickness changed over time. This helped him create a prognosis, which is a prediction of how a person might get better. He used these notes to help other doctors learn too.

Historians believe Hippocrates was born around 460 BC.

He lived on the Greek island of Kos. His father, Heraclides, was also a doctor. Hippocrates learned medicine from his family and other teachers. He traveled to many places like Thrace and Thessaly to practice. He likely died when he was between 83 and 90 years old.

Some stories say he lived even longer than that.

Hippocrates taught that the body has its own power to heal.

His school used gentle treatments to help this happen. They focused on rest and keeping patients very clean. For example, they used only clean water or wine on wounds. They also used tools like the Hippocratic bench to help fix broken bones.

He even described "Hippocratic fingers," which is a specific shape of fingers. This shape can show if someone has a lung or heart problem.

Even today, we still remember his important rules.

He is famous for the Hippocratic Oath. This is a special promise that doctors make to be honest and kind. It helps ensure that doctors act in a professional way. His ideas about studying diseases helped start many modern medical fields. These include surgery, neurology, and even orthopedics. We still use his method of careful observation in hospitals every day.
