Henri Michaux was a very creative man. He was born in Belgium. Later, he became a citizen of France. He spent most of his life there.

Michaux was a writer and a painter. He wrote strange and original poems. He also wrote many stories. One character he made was named Plume. Plume was a peaceful man who had many hard times.

Michaux loved to see the world. He traveled to Japan, China, and India. He also visited Ecuador and Brazil. These trips changed his art. He loved the look of Asian calligraphy. Calligraphy is a special way of writing with a brush. This style helped him make new drawings and poems.

His art used many thick, dark strokes. Some of his paintings looked like faces or heads. He was part of a group called Tachisme. This group used quick marks to make art. People can see his work in big museums. The Guggenheim Museum in New York has his art. The Museum of Modern Art in Paris has it too. Many people still study his books today.
