Players often use a mix of tools called the "Golden Triangle." This includes using guns, throwing grenades, and using close combat moves. You can fight enemies while walking on foot or while driving vehicles. To stay safe, players use health packs to fix their hit points. They also have an energy shield that recharges itself over time. Most games also limit you to carrying only two weapons at once.

The story begins millions of years before the main games. Ancient beings called the Forerunners once lived in the galaxy. They built the Halo Array, which are huge, ring-shaped structures. These rings were actually weapons meant to stop a parasitic species called the Flood. Much later, in the 26th century, humans began to live on many different worlds. A brave soldier named Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 became a hero during this time. He often works with a smart artificial intelligence named Cortana to save humanity.

A company called Bungie first created the series in the late 1990s.

They originally wanted to make a strategy game called "Blam!" However, the game changed into a first-person shooter. Microsoft bought Bungie in the year 2000 to help launch the Xbox console. The first game, Halo: Combat Evolved, came out in November 2001. It was a huge success and helped make Microsoft a major player in gaming. Later, Microsoft created 343 Industries to look after the series. In 2024, that group rebranded as Halo Studios.

Halo changed how people play games together online. The series helped pioneer online matchmaking and social features for players. Many fans loved to connect their consoles to play in local parties. The stories connect different types of media, like novels and animated films. You can find these stories in many forms, including fan-made animations. Even though the games have changed over many years, the sense of wonder remains. It is a world where humans and aliens meet in deep space.
