He was born in 1869 to a family of makers. As a young man, he learned to carve wood. Later, he traveled to cities like Paris and Berlin. These trips helped him find new ideas for his art. He often made art about people and life.

Vigeland is best known for his work in Frogner Park.

This place is called the Vigeland installation. It has 212 statues made of bronze and granite. One very famous piece is the Monolith. It is a tall stone tower. It has 121 figures carved into it. The figures look like they are reaching for the top.

He also designed the Nobel Peace Prize medal. This is a very important prize for peace. Vigeland lived and worked in a special studio. Today, that building is the Vigeland Museum. You can see his models and his old home there. Many people visit the park to see his massive works. His art shows many feelings, from joy to sadness.
