Wires help keep us safe.

Sometimes, power can leak out of a tool. This can cause a shock. A special wire can help. This wire carries the bad power away. It sends the power into the dirt.

To do this, a metal rod is buried in the soil. This rod is called an electrode. It gives the power a path to go. This keeps people safe from harm.

Some wires are green or yellow. These are for safety. They help the power flow to the ground. This stops a shock if a tool breaks.

Grounding also stops static. Static is that tiny zap you feel. It helps when we work with things that burn easily. It is a smart way to stay safe.
