It existed from 1819 to 1831. It held lands that are now Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. It also held Panama.

Two leaders helped start the nation. Simón Bolívar was the president. Francisco de Paula Santander was the vice-president. They once fought together to win freedom from Spain. But soon, they had different ideas about how to rule.

Bolívar wanted a strong central government. He wanted one leader to make big choices. Santander and others wanted a federal system. This system gives more power to local areas.

These fights made the country weak. Other problems also grew. Ecuador had issues with its trade and money. Venezuela also had leaders who wanted to rule themselves.

Because of these fights, the country broke apart in 1831. It became three separate nations: Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela.
