In this tale, Gilgamesh is two-thirds divine and one-third mortal. He has superhuman strength but can be a harsh ruler. To help him, the gods create a wild man named Enkidu. The two men wrestle and then become best friends. They go on many adventures together. They even fight a monster named Huwawa and a Bull of Heaven.

\n\nThere are many other older poems about Gilgamesh too. These were written in the Sumerian language. One poem tells how he helped the goddess Inanna. He fought a serpent to save her sacred huluppu tree. In another poem, he fights against a king named Aga of Kish. There is even a poem about his death and funeral. These separate stories were later woven together into one big narrative. This helped create the connected epic we know today.\n\nHistorians find many clues about the real Gilgamesh.
