She spends about six months blowing water over the eggs and grooming them. During this time, she does not eat and relies on her own body fats. This leads to her death by starvation shortly after the young hatch. The hatchlings are tiny, about the size of a grain of rice. They grow very quickly, increasing in size by about 0.9% every day.
