He wrote many books about history. He also loved plants and flowers.

As a boy, Parkman had poor health. He lived in the woods to get stronger. He learned to hunt and ride horses. This helped him love the forest. He later lived with the Sioux tribe. This trip helped him write about Native Americans.

Parkman had a hard life with his health. He had a brain illness. He often could not walk. He was also almost blind. He had to have people read to him. He told others what to write down.

He was a very busy man. He wrote a large set of books about France and England. He also helped save old books and papers. He was a leader at the Boston Athenæum.

Some people today disagree with his ideas. They say he was unfair to Native Americans. They also say he was unfair to women. But many people still read his work.
