He was born in a place called Nanterre. He held many different jobs in his life. He worked as a clerk and a tax worker. Later, he became a famous speaker for the sans-culottes. These were people from the poorest parts of Paris.

In 1793, Hanriot played a big part in a major event. He was named the leader of the Paris National Guard. He led a huge group of armed men to a large building. This building was called the Convention.

His soldiers surrounded the building with cannons and pikes. This forced the leaders to arrest a group called the Girondins. Some people called Hanriot the "Savior of the Fatherland" for this.

Later, things changed in France. Hanriot stayed loyal to a leader named Robespierre. In July 1794, a group of people tried to take power from Robespierre. Hanriot tried to help Robespierre, but he failed. He was arrested and executed the very next day. This marked the end of a very tense time in France.
