Flerovium is a superheavy element. Scientists made it in a lab in Russia.

It has the symbol Fl. Its atomic number is 114. This element is very radioactive. This means it is unstable and breaks apart quickly. Most parts of it last only a few seconds. One version lasts about 2.1 seconds. Another version might last 19 seconds.

Scientists named it after a lab in Russia. That lab is the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions. The lab was named for a physicist named Georgy Flyorov.

Flerovium is hard to make. Scientists can only make one atom at a time. They make it by hitting other atoms together. This creates a new, heavy atom.

Some scientists think flerovium is part of an "island of stability." This is a place where heavy elements might last longer. This happens because of nuclear shells. These are layers inside the center of an atom. When these shells are full, the atom stays together better.

Flerovium is also very volatile. This means it might turn into a gas easily. It might even act like a gas at normal temperatures.
