Most meals balance sweet, sour, and salty flavors. For example, people eat sweet cocoa rice porridge called champorado with salty dried fish.

Many dishes come from long histories of trade. Chinese traders brought rice noodles used in pancit.

They also brought eggrolls, which are known as lumpia. Later, Spanish rule brought new crops like tomatoes and peppers. This led to tasty stews like adobo, made with vinegar and soy sauce.

Rice is a very important part of every meal. Long ago, the Ifugao people built huge rice terraces on mountains. These stone walls helped them grow rice on steep slopes. Today, rice is still a staple food.

Eating is a way to bring people together. Families often share food all at once. Some people use a style called kamayan. This means they eat with their hands. Others use a spoon and fork to eat.
