It began with Native American tribes. For some, the game was a spiritual act. They played to heal people or give thanks. It was also used to settle small fights. Some old games lasted for many days.

Players use a stick called a crosse. The head of the stick has a net. This net holds a solid rubber ball. Players catch, carry, and pass the ball. They try to shoot it into a goal.

Defenders use long sticks to stop the ball. They use stick checking to take the ball away. The goalkeeper wears extra padding to stay safe.

Players also wear helmets, gloves, and pads. Modern sticks often have plastic heads. This makes the game easier for more people to play.
