Fars sits near several other provinces. To the west is Bushehr, and to the south is Hormozgan. Kerman and Yazd sit to the east. Isfahan is to the north, while Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad is to the northwest. This location has made it a busy place for many people over time.

The land has three different types of weather. In the north and northwest, there are mountains with mild summers and cold winters. The central part has rainy winters and hot, dry summers. The south and southeast have hot summers and cold winters. These changes in weather help many different plants grow. Because of this, many kinds of wildlife live here. You might see deer, gazelles, or mountain wild goats. Every year, birds like ducks, storks, and swallows fly here in a large group.

Fars has a very deep history that goes back thousands of years. It was the original homeland of the Persian people. Long ago, the Achaemenid and Sasanian dynasties ruled from this region. These were some of the most powerful empires in the world. The Achaemenid Empire was so large it reached from Eastern Europe to the Indus Valley. Later, the Sassanian Empire ruled for 425 years. The region also saw the rule of the Parthians and the Seleucid Empire.

These sites are important parts of the world's heritage. Other famous places include the ruins of Bishapur and Firuzabad. Many of these old structures show how people lived in the ancient Persian world.

Today, many different groups of people live in Fars. Most people are indigenous Persians, including the Larestani and Basseri. There are also smaller groups like the Qashqai, Lurs, Arabs, and Kurds.
