A river flows from Lake Okeechobee. This water moves very slowly through the grass. Many people call it the "River of Grass." This water helps many things grow. It creates different kinds of soil. One type is peat. Peat comes from old, dead plants. Another type is marl. Marl is a gray mud made from tiny bits of algae.
