V is a famous American writer, performer, and activist. She uses her voice to speak about important issues in the world.

She is best known for writing a play called "The Vagina Monologues." This play has been performed in over 140 countries. It has also been translated into 48 different languages. Many famous stars, like Oprah Winfrey and Jane Fonda, have acted in it. Many people think her work is very important for politics and theater.

V uses her art to help people through a movement called V-Day. This group was started in 1998 to stop violence against women and girls.

The name V-Day stands for Victory, Valentine, and Vagina. This movement raises money and teaches people about how to stay safe. In 2010, there were more than 5,400 V-Day events in many locations. By 2014, the movement had raised over $100 million. This money helps fund over 12,000 programs and safe houses around the world.

V's life has had many hard parts that shaped her work. She was born in New York City on May 25, 1953.

As a young child, she suffered physical and sexual abuse from her father. She has spoken about these difficult times in her book, "The Apology." Because of this, she decided to stop using her last name. Now, she asks people to call her simply "V."

Through her work, V has helped create special places for people to heal. One example is the City of Joy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This community was opened in 2011 with help from UNICEF. It helps women who have faced violence. The women there can learn dance, theater, and how to grow plants. They even run and direct the community themselves. This helps them feel strong and independent.

V also works to make the world a more equal place. In 2012, she started a global protest called One Billion Rising.

This campaign asks people to dance to demand an end to violence. She also writes for many places, like "The Guardian" newspaper. V has even helped as a consultant for the movie "Mad Max: Fury Road." She continues to travel and use her stories to spread kindness.
