Episode

arts Maturity 11-13 Next article →

An episode is one part of a larger story. It is used in shows for radio or TV. You might see them on streaming sites too. Think of an episode like a chapter in a book.

Each part tells a piece of the tale. Most modern episodes last 20 to 50 minutes. This helps tell one long story over time.

Some episodes have smaller parts inside them. We call these parts segments. Segments are often split up by other things. These might be commercials, which are short ads. They might also be announcements.

One show even turned a segment into its own series. This was called Carpool Karaoke.

News shows use segments in a special way. They stack these parts together. This makes a full news episode. The word comes from a Greek term called epeisodion. People often use the short form "ep." You can also use the word for life. An episode can be a part of a person's life or a drama. It is a way to break up a big story.
