Enver joined a group called the Young Turks. They wanted to change how the empire was ruled. In 1908, Enver helped lead a revolution. This change brought back a constitution and a parliament. Because of this, many people called him a hero.

He was a military officer and a leader of a group called the Young Turks. This group wanted to change how the empire was ruled. Enver was born in Constantinople on November 23, 1881. His father, Ahmed Bey, worked in the Balkans. Enver grew up and went to a military academy. He studied there with Mustafa Kemal, who later became the first president of Turkey. The two men became rivals during their school years.

Enver became a leader through his work in the military.

He was stationed in Macedonia between 1903 and 1908. During this time, he fought in 54 different battles. He became an expert at fighting small groups of soldiers. He joined a group called the Committee of Union and Progress to help make these changes.

After a coup in 1913, he became the War Minister. He was also a main leader of the government. He helped the Ottoman Empire join World War I by making an alliance with Germany. However, his leadership led to very hard times. He led an attack against Russian forces at the Battle of Sarikamish. This battle was a disaster for his troops. He also helped lead actions that caused the deaths of many people. Between 800,000 and 1,500,000 Armenians, 750,000 Assyrians, and 500,000 Greeks died during this time.

After World War I ended, Enver had to leave the empire.

An Ottoman court sentenced him to death for his role in the war and the massacres. He fled to Central Asia to live. There, he died while leading a revolt against the Bolsheviks. This organization was part of the Young Turks movement. They worked to change the way the Ottoman Empire was governed. Enver's influence grew through military service and political revolutions. His actions shaped the empire during a period of great change and conflict.

Enver's rise began with his education and early military career. He was born in Constantinople on November 23, 1881. His father, Ahmed Bey, lived in the Balkans. Enver attended the Ottoman Military Academy and graduated in 1902. He was a "mektebli," which means an officer educated in a new military college. During his studies, he was a classmate of Mustafa Kemal, the future president of Turkey. The two men developed a rivalry that lasted many years.

After graduating, Enver was stationed in Ottoman Macedonia.

In Macedonia, Enver built a reputation as a skilled soldier. Between 1903 and 1908, he participated in 54 different engagements. Most of these battles were against Bulgarian bands. He became an expert in counter-insurgency, which is the practice of fighting small, irregular groups. Because of his success, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. He also received several honors, including the Mecidiye and Osmaniye medals. These military successes led him to join the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP). He wanted to use his influence to reform the Ottoman military.

Enver played a vital role in the Young Turk Revolution of 1908.

He worked with another officer named Ahmed Niyazi. Together, they led groups of soldiers into the mountains to protest the rule of Sultan Abdul Hamid II. They demanded the restoration of the constitution of 1876. This document helped reestablish parliamentary democracy in the empire. Because of this, many people called Enver and Niyazi "heroes of freedom."

Their images even appeared on postcards and children's masks. This era is known as the Second Constitutional Era.

After the 1913 coup d'état, Enver reached the height of his power. He became the War Minister and the de facto Commander-in-Chief. Although the Sultan held the official title of Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Enver made the major military decisions. He helped form an alliance with Germany. This alliance was a major reason the Ottoman Empire entered World War I.

During the war, he led an attack on Russian forces at the Battle of Sarikamish. This battle ended in a disaster for the Ottoman military. Enver blamed the defeat on Armenian groups.

Enver's leadership is also tied to very dark periods in history. He and Talaat Pasha were principal leaders during the late Ottoman genocides. Additionally, 750,000 Assyrians and 500,000 Greeks were killed. These events are part of the heavy history of the empire's final years.

Following the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in World War I, Enver fled the country. An Ottoman Military Tribunal held a trial for the Unionists. The court convicted Enver and others in absentia, meaning the trial happened while they were gone. He was sentenced to death for bringing the empire into the war and for organizing massacres. Enver escaped to Central Asia. There, he led the Basmachi Revolt against the Bolsheviks. He was killed during this conflict. His remains were eventually moved back to Turkey in 1996.
