Inside a cell, many parts work as a team.

This team is called the endomembrane system. It is made of different skins called membranes. These membranes divide the cell into small rooms. We call these rooms organelles.

One part is the nuclear envelope. This skin surrounds the nucleus. It has tiny holes called nuclear pores. These pores let things pass in and out. Another part is the endoplasmic reticulum, or ER. The ER helps make and move things. It is an extension of the nuclear envelope. The ER has two types. The rough ER has tiny bumps called ribosomes. The smooth ER has no bumps.

The Golgi apparatus is another part. It acts like a packing center. It packs molecules to send them to other parts. Small sacs called vesicles carry these things. Vesicles move material from one part to another. The cell membrane is the outer skin. It protects the cell. It also controls what enters and leaves. All these parts work together to keep the cell running.
