Long ago, a leader named Napoleon ruled France.

People made art to honor him. This was called the Empire style. It used grand ideas from old Greece and Rome.

This style used very rich colors. It used dark wood and gold parts.

Many things looked the same on both sides. This made them look balanced.

Artists used shapes like bees and eagles. They also used lions and swans. Some art even had shapes from Egypt.

Buildings were very big and strong. They looked like old temples. This style spread to many lands. It even reached the United States.
