Emmanuel Lubezki is a famous Mexican cinematographer. A cinematographer is the person who manages the camera for a movie. He is known for making films look beautiful and real. He uses natural light, which is light from the sun or moon. He also likes to use long, continuous shots. These shots do not stop moving during a scene.

He uses special tools like a Steadicam to keep things smooth. He also uses a 3-axis gimbal or even a hand-held camera. These tools help him move through a scene without the image shaking too much.

Lubezki has a very special way of working with cameras. In the movie Children of Men, he used a special camera rig. This rig was made by a company called Doggicam systems. For one scene, a car was changed to help the camera move. The seats could tilt down to stay out of the way. Even the windshield could tilt to let the camera through.

A crew of four people even rode on the roof of the car. He also used digital backgrounds to make movies like Gravity look like one long shot. This creates a sense of wonder for the people watching.

His journey started in Mexico City, Mexico. He was born on November 30, 1964, to a Jewish family. His father, Muni Lubezki, was an actor and a producer. Lubezki went to film school at CUEC in Mexico. It was there that he met his longtime friend, Alfonso Cuarón.

They have worked together on six different movies. These include films like A Little Princess and Gravity. He began his professional career in Mexican film and TV in the late 1980s.

Lubezki has won many of the biggest prizes in movies. He won three Academy Awards in a row for Best Cinematography. This is a very rare and special achievement. He won for Gravity in 2013. He won for Birdman in 2014. Then he won for The Revenant in 2015.

He was the first cinematographer to ever win three times in a row. In 2016, he also won the Royal Photographic Society Lumière Award. This award is for major achievements in video or animation.

Working on his movies can be a very hard job. For The Revenant, he filmed in the wild during a cold season. He used only natural light and very little computer animation. This made the filming very difficult and caused delays. It also meant the production spent more money than planned.

However, the movie was a huge success with fans and critics. People loved the realistic and atmospheric feeling of the film. Lubezki is a member of the Mexican and American Societies of Cinematographers.
