It is often shown as a rabbit. Sometimes the rabbit wears clothes. This figure brings eggs to children.

This story began with German Lutherans. Long ago, the Easter Hare was like a judge. It looked to see if children were good or bad. This is like the list Santa Claus makes. The hare brings colored eggs in a basket. It may also bring candy or toys.

Some people believe the hare hides eggs in gardens. This idea came from old German tales. In the 1700s, German settlers brought this to America. They called it the Osterhase.

Eggs are also important for Easter. In the Christian faith, eggs represent the tomb of Jesus. Some people dye eggs red to remember him. Others use flowers to change the color. This brings the feeling of spring into the home. In England, children once asked for eggs on special days. Now, the Easter Bunny is a popular part of the holiday.
