Dry measure

math Maturity 11-13 Next article →

We use special ways to measure dry things. These are things like grain and beans. We also measure coal and salt.

Sometimes we fill a container to the top. We can sweep the top flat. This is called a struck measure. Other times, we leave a big heap on top. This is a heaped measure.

Some names are used for liquids too. But dry and liquid amounts can be different. A dry barrel is smaller than a liquid one.

People use these to sell goods. They might use a sack or a box. They may even use a bale of wool. These help us know how much we have.
