This means the rocks were temporarily exposed during construction. After the discovery, the sites were reburied by new construction. The two main specimens were found about 100 meters away from each other.
There are two primary specimens that scientists study. The first is the holotype specimen, labeled TMM 43209-1. It is kept at the Texas Memorial Museum at the University of Texas at Austin. Dallasaurus holds a significant place in the family tree of marine reptiles. It is considered a sister group to more derived mosasaurine mosasaurs.
