Da Lat is a significant city located in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.
The climate in Da Lat is a subtropical highland climate, known scientifically as Cwb.
History shows how the city grew from a highland area into a major resort. In the 1890s, explorers including the bacteriologist Alexandre Yersin visited the region. They suggested to the French governor-general, Paul Doumer, that a resort center be created. While Dankia was the first intended site, Étienne Tardif proposed the current location. The first hotel opened in 1907, and urban planning was led by Ernest Hébrard.
The name "Da Lat" has interesting origins. Some sources suggest it is a backcronym for a Latin phrase. The phrase is "Dat Aliis Laetitiam Aliis Temperiem," which means "It Gives Pleasure to Some, Freshness to Others." This phrase was used in the official emblem of the French colonial government.
Da Lat is a vital hub for various industries and scientific research. Its temperate weather allows for large-scale agriculture of products like cabbage, cauliflower, artichoke, tea, and coffee.
The city's architecture offers a look into its diverse past. The Da Lat Railway Station, built in 1938, features an Art Deco style.

Modern infrastructure connects Da Lat to the rest of Vietnam. Travelers can use the Da Lat–Thap Cham railway line or the Dau Giay–Dalat Expressway to reach Ho Chi Minh City.
