A computer can run a machine.

A computer can run a machine tool. We call this CNC. This stands for computer numerical control.
First, a person makes a design on a computer. This is done with CAD software. CAD stands for computer-aided design. Then, CAM software turns that design into instructions. These instructions are called G-code.
Some machines use heat to work. A plasma cutter uses hot gas to melt metal.
Computer numerical control, or CNC, is a way to run machines using a computer.

Making a part with a CNC machine follows a clear set of steps. First, a person creates a design using CAD software. CAD stands for computer-aided design. Next, CAM software, or computer-aided manufacturing, turns that design into instructions. These instructions are often written in a special language called G-code.
People have been working on this for a long time. The very first NC machines were built during the 1940s and 1950s. These early machines were modified versions of tools that already existed. They used motors to move parts based on information from punched tape. Later, engineers added analog and digital computers to these systems. This change helped create the modern CNC machines we see today. These machines have completely changed how we make things in factories.
There are many different types of CNC machines used today. A CNC mill moves a tool to many different locations and depths. A lathe is a machine that cuts a part while it rotates.

CNC technology is all around us in many different ways. It is used for many tasks like laser cutting and sewing. It is even used in 3D printers to build objects layer by layer.
