Later, on January 1, 1911, King Vajiravudh renamed it the Civil Service College of King Chulalongkorn. This change served as a memorial to his father.

In 1917, the college underwent a major transformation into a national university. On March 26, King Vajiravudh officially named it Chulalongkorn University. This upgrade expanded education to all people rather than just bureaucrats. The original schools were reorganized into four specific faculties. These included the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Public Administration, the Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Medicine. The Rockefeller Foundation later helped reorganize the curriculum for the Faculty of Medicine. By 1923, the medical faculty became the first to accept secondary school graduates.

Today, the university manages a very large and diverse population. As of the 2026 academic cycle, there are 34,173 students enrolled. Approximately 76% of these students, or over 26,000 people, are undergraduates. Postgraduate students, including Master's and Doctoral candidates, make up about 24% of the body. The gender ratio is 55% female and 45% male. The university employs 8,138 academic staff members. This results in a student-to-staff ratio of approximately 12:1. International diversity is also present, with international students accounting for about 4% of enrollment.

This park contains over 250 plant species and helps manage water runoff.

Research at the university provides real-world solutions to complex global challenges. For example, the DMIND project uses AI to detect early signs of depression. This tool has reduced triage time for high-risk individuals by approximately 70%. In agriculture, the School of Agricultural Resources helps cacao farmers. This project helped over 300 farming households increase their incomes by an average of 72%. In marine biology, researchers use 3D-printed "Innoreefs" to help coral grow. These structures can accelerate coral growth to three or four times the natural rate.
