Chico Ejiro was a highly productive filmmaker from Nigeria. He worked as a movie director, screenwriter, and producer. His career helped define a significant era of Nigerian cinema. People often called him "Mr. Prolific" because of his massive output. This nickname reflected his ability to create many films in a short time. He was a key figure in a movement of filmmakers.

Ejiro's path into the film industry began with a practical need. He was born in Isoko, Delta, Nigeria. Initially, he focused his studies on the field of agriculture. He eventually moved into video production due to local market conditions. At that time, Nigerians did not buy blank video cassettes. This lack of supplies drew him toward producing video content. He became part of the second generation of Nigerian filmmakers.

This generation emerged during the 1990s. During this decade, cheap video-production equipment became available in Nigeria. This technology changed how movies were made in the country. Ejiro used these tools to build a large body of work. He founded a production company named Grand Touch Pictures. This company was based in the major city of Lagos. His work focused on storylines that were relevant to Nigerian people.

Ejiro was famous for his incredible speed and efficiency. He directed more than 80 movies within a single five-year period. Some of these films were shot in as little as three days. This rapid pace allowed him to produce a vast amount of content. By the year 2007, he had worked on hundreds of films. He served as a director, a producer, or both on these projects. His efficiency made him a central figure in the industry.

His professional success earned him international recognition. In 2002, he was profiled by two major publications. These were The New York Times and Time magazine. He was also featured in a 2007 documentary titled "Welcome to Nollywood." This documentary followed him while he made the films "Family Affair 1" and "Family Affair 2." His filmography includes titles such as "Silent Night" from 1996. He also worked on "Blood Money" in 1997 and "Night Bus to Lagos" in 2019.

Film was also a family business for the Ejiro household. He married Joy Ejiro in 1998, and they had four children. His brothers were also involved in the creative arts. Zeb Ejiro became a well-known Nigerian cinema auteur outside of the country. His brother, Peter Red Ejiro, worked as a movie producer. This shows how deeply the family was connected to the film industry.

Chico Ejiro passed away in the early hours of Christmas Day, 2020. His family also faced significant loss shortly after. His son died on November 15, 2021. Reports indicated that his son had been battling cancer for several years. Despite these losses, Ejiro's impact on Nigerian film remains clear. He helped lead a movement that used new technology to tell local stories. His life work remains a part of the history of Nollywood.
