Chao Phraya River

geography Maturity 7-9 Next article →

The Chao Phraya is a major river in Thailand. It begins where the Ping and Nan rivers meet. From there, it flows south through a flat plain. The river passes through Bangkok. It finally flows into the Gulf of Thailand.

This river is very important to the land. Many people live near its banks. They use river buses and water taxis to travel.

Many cities sit along the water. These cities are very crowded.

Farmers use the river to help grow rice. Small paths of water, called khlongs, split off the main river. These canals carry water to rice paddies.
