Semenya grew up in a small village. She started running to train for soccer.

Semenya has a rare medical condition. This is called 5α-Reductase 2 deficiency. This condition affects how a body develops. It gives her high natural testosterone levels. Because of this, new rules were made. In 2019, World Athletics made new rules for some athletes. These rules say some runners must take medicine. The medicine lowers their testosterone levels. Semenya says these rules are not fair. She wants to run without the medicine. She says she is a different kind of woman.
