. Some local shows even begin as early as 4:00 a.m. A small team of hosts leads the broadcast to help people start their day. These shows are made for many different people. They are for adults staying at home and parents getting ready for the day. They are also for people preparing for work or school.

How a morning show works often depends on the time of day. The first half of the program usually focuses on hard news. This includes updates on big stories from the night before. Hosts might talk about politics, business, or sports headlines. They also share weather forecasts and traffic reports to help people travel.

Later in the program, the tone often changes. The show might move into "infotainment," which is a mix of news and fun. This includes lifestyle stories and human-interest segments. Some local shows even feature reports on nearby businesses or attractions.

The history of these shows began with a local program. A comedian named Ernie Kovacs hosted a show called Three to Get Ready. It aired on WPTZ in Philadelphia from 1950 to 1952. This show was mostly for entertainment, but it did have news and weather. Its success led NBC to create a national version. On January 14, 1952, NBC premiered the show Today.

This was the first national morning news program. It set the style for many shows that followed. For 70 years, Today was the number one program in the ratings. Many networks around the world copied its successful format.

Different networks have had many different paths in the morning. In the United States, three major shows are CBS Mornings, Today, and Good Morning America. These three shows air live only in the Eastern Time Zone. Other stations in different time zones watch them on a tape delay. ABC was a later competitor in this field. They launched Good Morning America in November 1975. This show was based on a local program from Cleveland called The Morning Exchange. Good Morning America has often been in second place behind Today. However, it has actually surpassed Today in the ratings a few times.

Morning shows connect to many parts of our daily lives. They use digital graphics to show the time and temperature. Many shows also use news tickers at the bottom of the screen. These tickers show sports scores, weather, and even lottery numbers. Some shows focus on specific groups, like Spanish-language networks. These shows can air live across several time zones. Even when news is breaking, like a royal wedding, shows may broadcast nationwide. This makes morning television a huge part of how we hear about the world. It helps us feel connected to our local towns and the whole planet.
