Big Crunch

Some scientists have an idea about how the universe might end.

They call this idea the Big Crunch. It is a guess about what might happen very far in the future.

This idea depends on how much stuff is in space. If there is enough matter, gravity might win. Gravity is the force that pulls things together. It could stop the universe from growing. Then, the universe would start to shrink.

As the universe gets smaller, everything gets crowded. Galaxy clusters and galaxies would merge. Stars would get so close that they might hit each other. The universe would also get very hot. It would become one giant fireball. In the end, space and time might not even exist.

Some think this could lead to a Big Bounce. This is a way for the universe to start over. The Big Crunch could cause a new Big Bang. This would make a cycle that repeats forever.

However, most new evidence shows a different story. We see that the universe is actually growing faster. This makes a Big Crunch seem unlikely.
