Deep rocks make the ground.

These rocks are very old. They sit under other rocks. They help hold the land up. They are like a floor for the Earth.

Some of these rocks are at the surface. You can see them in the Grand Canyon. They are made of very hard stone. They sit under layers of sand and mud.

These deep rocks are very thick. They can be under miles of dirt. This thick floor makes up the continents. It is much older than the ocean floor.

Sometimes, new hot rock flows under the crust. This can make the ground even thicker. The rocks can also change from heat and pressure.
