Bao Zhao was a famous writer in China. He lived during the Liu Song ruling family. He was born around the year 414. Bao was a very skilled man. He wrote many kinds of poems. He also wrote long stories called fu rhapsodies. One famous story is "Fu on the Ruined City." It describes a city that was destroyed in a war. His words show how the city used to look. He also wrote "Fu on the Dancing Cranes." This piece is about a group of trained birds.

Bao Zhao worked for many princes. He even taught at a big school. He had a sister named Bao Linghui. She was a poet too. Many of Bao's poems are still known today. He was a leader in a new way of writing. He used a new way to rhyme his poems. Instead of every line rhyming, he used a mixed way. This helped his poetry stand out. Sadly, Bao Zhao died in the year 466. He was part of a group that lost a fight for power. He was about 52 years old when he died.
