It was called the Second Bank of the United States. This bank helped manage money for the whole nation. It helped keep prices steady and gave loans.

But many people thought the bank was unfair. They felt it only helped rich merchants. They said it did not help farmers or small businesses.

President Andrew Jackson was part of this fight.

He believed the bank had too much power. He thought it hurt the common people. In 1832, the bank asked to stay in business for more years. Jackson said no. He used his power to stop the bank.

Jackson moved the government's money to many smaller state banks.

Some leaders, like Henry Clay, fought against Jackson. They wanted the big bank to stay. This struggle was called the Bank War. It divided the country into two groups. The big bank eventually shut down. This change helped state banks grow across the land.
