Later, he led a group of eleven ships. They sailed to a new land. He found a good place to live. He named it Port Jackson. This place is now a city called Sydney.

Life in the new land was hard. There was not enough food for all. People had to work to grow crops. They also had to find water.

Arthur Phillip wanted everyone to be safe. He thought the local people should have rights. But, the two groups had many fights. This was because they were so different.

He left the new land to go home. He was not feeling well. Many places are named after him today.
