As a boy, Anton looked at the night sky. He saw a bright light in the stars. He realized it was the planet Saturn. This spark led him to become a famous astronomer. He studied the Milky Way, which is our home galaxy. He even used a special way to take photos. He made the stars look like soft disks. This helped him map how light spreads in space. His work showed that the galaxy was very large.

Anton also had strong ideas about society. He was a socialist. He wanted life to be fair for workers. He helped start a way of thinking called council communism. He believed workers should lead themselves through councils. These are groups where workers make decisions together. He wrote many books about these ideas.

Because he was so smart, he became a professor. He started a new school for stars in Amsterdam. Today, a crater on the moon bears his name. People still study his great work.
