Life at the French court was not easy. Anne and Louis had a hard marriage. For many years, they did not have any children. This caused tension between the king and queen. It also caused problems with the king's advisor, Cardinal Richelieu. In 1638, Anne finally had a son named Louis XIV. She had a second son named Philippe two years later. When Louis XIII died in 1643, Anne became the regent. A regent is a person who rules for a child. She ruled for her son until he was old enough. During this time, a group of nobles started a revolt called the Fronde. Anne and her minister, Cardinal Mazarin, stopped the revolt. Anne later retired from politics. She died in 1666.
