She was born on March 25, 1940, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. Her musical journey began very early in life. She sang in her local church when she was only two years old. By the age of six, she was performing on stages at local fairgrounds. She even had her own television show called The Anita Bryant Show at age 12. These early years built a foundation for a very busy career in entertainment.

As she grew up, Bryant became a successful pop singer. She released many albums on labels like Carlton and Columbia. Some of her songs became very popular hits in the United States. Her songs "Paper Roses," "In My Little Corner of the World," and "Till There Was You" each sold over one million copies.

She also earned gold discs for these successful recordings. Besides pop music, she sang religious and gospel music later in her career. She even sang at the graveside services for President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1973.

In 1969, Bryant began a new role as a brand ambassador. She worked for the Florida Citrus Commission to promote orange juice.

Her commercials were shown on television all across the country. She often sang about the sunshine that comes with breakfast. She also worked with the Disney character Orange Bird in these advertisements. Because she was so famous, she appeared in ads for many other companies too. She worked with brands like Coca-Cola, Kraft Foods, and Tupperware during this time.

Her life changed significantly in 1977 due to her political activism.

At that time, Miami-Dade County in Florida passed a law. This law said people could not be treated unfairly because of their sexual orientation. Bryant led a campaign called Save Our Children to try to stop this law. She believed the law was a threat to Christian values and children. On June 7, 1977, her campaign succeeded when a 69% majority voted to repeal the law. However, this victory led to a lot of conflict with others.

Many people disagreed with Bryant's campaign and wanted to fight for gay rights.

They organized a boycott of the orange juice she promoted. This meant they stopped buying the product to show their protest. Some famous people in film and music helped support this boycott. During a television appearance in Iowa, a protester even threw a pie at her.
