Many great philosophers and scientists lived and worked there.

The geography of Andalusia is defined by several major mountain systems and valleys. In the north, the Sierra Morena mountains create a border. This range separates Andalusia from the plains of Extremadura and Castilla-La Mancha. To the south, the landscape is dominated by the Baetic System. This system includes the Subbaetic and Penibaetic mountain ranges. These two ranges are separated by the Intrabaetic Basin.

Andalusia's climate is characterized by extreme heat in its inland areas. The hinterland is considered the hottest area in Europe. In cities like Córdoba and Seville, summer high temperatures often exceed 40°C.
The history of the region is a complex layer of many different cultures. Many groups have influenced Andalusia, including the Tartessians, Iberians, Phoenicians, and Greeks. Romans, Vandals, Visigoths, and Byzantines also lived here. The region's name, Andalusia, likely comes from the Arabic word "Al-Andalus." There is debate regarding the exact origin of this name. It was one of the most important cities in the world for philosophers and scientists. Later, the Crown of Castile conquered the Guadalquivir Valley in the 13th century. The mountainous eastern region, known as the Emirate of Granada, was subdued in the late 15th century. Historically, the region was known for its agricultural sector. Modern Andalusia is defined by its political autonomy and historical pride. Blas Infante is recognized as the "Father of the Andalusian Nation." The region celebrates Andalusia Day on February 28th. This date commemorates the 1980 autonomy referendum. Today, the Spanish Constitution recognizes Andalusia as a nationality within the unified Spanish nation. This status allows the community to exercise its own right to self-government. The region continues to balance its deep historical roots with modern economic growth in services and industry.
