In 1905, he had a very big year. He wrote four papers that changed science. One idea was about the photoelectric effect. This is when light hits metal and lets out tiny particles. He also showed that mass and energy are the same thing.
Einstein also studied how gravity works. He created a theory called general relativity. This helped us understand the whole universe. In 1921, he won the Nobel Prize in Physics.

He eventually became an American citizen in 1940.
During his later years, Einstein focused on complex problems that proved difficult to solve. 
Einstein's legacy is visible in many different parts of modern science and culture.
