On the front, the triangular coronoid process projects forward. This process is received into the coronoid fossa of the humerus when the forearm is flexed. Additionally, the radial notch is a narrow depression on the lateral side. This notch receives the head of the radius, creating a pivot joint that allows the forearm to rotate.

The body of the ulna has a complex shape with specific borders and surfaces. The shaft is prismatic at the top and becomes more rounded toward the bottom. It features three distinct borders: the volar border, the dorsal border, and the interosseous crest.

The interosseous crest is particularly important because it provides an attachment point for the interosseous membrane. This membrane connects the ulna to the radius along their entire length. The bone also has three surfaces—volar, dorsal, and medial—which serve as anchor points for various muscles.

Muscles use the ulna as an attachment site to control arm and hand movement. For instance, the triceps brachii muscle inserts onto the posterior part of the olecranon process. This muscle is essential for extending the arm. The brachialis muscle attaches to the anterior surface of the coronoid process to help bend the elbow.
