These corridors act as the main arteries of the system. They provide the most important high-speed connections between major hubs. By focusing on these core routes, the EU can prioritize the most vital parts of the transport web.

The nine Core network corridors vary greatly in size and location. The Atlantic Corridor is the longest, stretching 8,200 km from Lisbon to Strasbourg. The Scandinavian–Mediterranean Corridor is also very large, covering 4,858 km from Helsinki to Valletta. In contrast, the Rhine–Alpine Corridor is much shorter at 1,300 km, connecting Genoa to Rotterdam. Other corridors include the Baltic–Adriatic Corridor, which is 2,400 km long. The Orient/East–Med Corridor reaches 3,700 km, while the Mediterranean Corridor spans 3,000 km. These specific measurements show the incredible scale of the project.

Building these corridors involves many different types of transport networks. There is a dedicated road network and a rail network. The rail network includes both conventional lines and high-speed lines. Water transport is split into inland waterways and seaports, which includes "Motorways of the Sea."

There are also networks for air traffic management and even positioning and navigation, such as the Galileo system. Each of these specialized networks must work in harmony to support the broader TEN-T vision.

Finally, TEN-T is constantly expanding to connect with neighboring regions. In 2017, the network began extending further into Eastern Europe and the Balkans. By February 2019, the furthest eastern expansion reached as far as Armenia. In July 2022, new agreements were made to link four corridors with Moldova and Ukraine. To help these countries join the EU rail system, experts recommended using a standard gauge of 1435mm. This specific rail width helps avoid the disruptions caused by the 1520mm lines used in those regions. The network continues to evolve to bridge different parts of the world.
