Hannah was a talented inventor who received the first American patent for two-ply thread. Sadly, Hannah died in 1812 from childbirth complications. Slater later married Esther Parkinson in 1817. By the time of his death on April 21, 1835, Slater was extremely wealthy. He owned 13 mills and had a net worth of 1.3 million dollars.
