Today, QR codes are used in many surprising ways across the globe. They are printed on currency to provide historical information. For example, the Central Bank of Nigeria included a code on a 100-naira banknote in 2014. The Bank of Ghana also used them on a 5-cedis banknote in 2017. You can even find them on train tickets in China or on large billboards in Japan. 
In the commercial world, QR codes are a powerful tool for marketing. Companies use them to increase their "conversion rate." This is the chance that an advertisement will lead to an actual sale. By scanning a code on a product, such as a Pepsi can, a customer can reach a website immediately.
