This study looked at very small parts of the animal. It used mitochondrial and nuclear analyses to see their DNA. This helped researchers find the real family tree.

This new study showed a surprising link. It found that musk deer are actually closer to the Bovidae family. This family includes goats, sheep, cattle, and antelope.
