Later, they collaborated with manufacturer Jean-Baptiste Réveillon to create a more sophisticated model. This version used a taffeta envelope coated in an alum varnish to make it fireproof. The balloon was sky blue and decorated with golden zodiac signs and suns. These different designs helped them move from simple experiments to reliable flight.
The path to human flight required careful testing to ensure safety. On September 19, 1783, the brothers performed a demonstration at the Palace of Versailles before King Louis XVI.
